These (parey = put) remain in (bandhan) bondage of (ahangbudh-i) ego, which does not allow union with the Creator; the only way to (chhuttaar) attain freedom from ego is to conform to (naam) Divine virtues and commands, says fifth Nanak. 1.

Note. The next Pauri uses the expression ਨਲਿਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਸੂਆ (nalini bhram sooaa) meaning the parrot is deluded by the tube. This is in the context of how a parrot is trapped. A bait is put on a hollow tube with a rod supported at both ends running through it and water below it. When the parrot comes and sits on the tube, it rotates taking the parrot down on to the water. The parrot clings to the tube and gets caught. This concept has been used in Gurbani a number of times as metaphor to warn the humans to beware of temptations because they are traps to put the soul in bondage.
