(Tai) you do not (chhaaddiaa) spare (koey) anyone (bin-u) except (santaa = saints) the devotees of the Almighty, i.e. God’s devotees do not succumb to temptations; (sant) the devotees (parey) place themselves (paakhi = by side) in care and obedience of (gobind = master of the world) the Almighty. 1.

You enjoy (sarab) all (sookh) comforts, i.e. all your aspirations are fulfilled, giving you (ghaeyrey) plentiful (aanand) bliss/joy; you are (dhiaani) focused on obtaining (daras) vision of (tthaakur) the Master – and do not look elsewhere. 1.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. (Rey) o (paapi) sinner/transgressor, (ki = of, kavan = who) whose (mat-i) counsel have you (leen) taken? – you are so thankless.

You do not (nimakh ghari) even for a short while, (simar-i) remember to obey, i.e. totally ignore, commands of (suaami) the Master, (jin-i) who (deen) gave (jeeo) soul and (pindd-u) body

When you (bil-laatt karta) writhed in discomfort of (garabh udar) the mother’s womb, you (hovat) were (deen) humble, i.e. prayed to God, (tahaa-n) there. 1.

Sārag mėhlā 5.  Mā▫ī rī cẖarnah ot gahī.  Ḏarsan pekẖ merā man mohi▫o ḏurmaṯ jāṯ bahī. ||1|| rahā▫o.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. (Ri) o (maai) mother, ever since I (gahi = held) took (ott) protection (charnah) of feet, i.e. placed myself in care and obedience of the Almighty;

(Durmat-i) evil sense (jaat bahi = has flowed away) has left; and (meyra) my (man-u) mind, (mohio) is fascinated (peykh-i) to see (darsan-u) vision of the Almighty within, i.e. I am ecstatic with the experience of living by Divine commands. 1.

(Rahaau) dwell and reflect on this.

Agah agāḏẖ ūcẖ abẖināsī kīmaṯ jāṯ na kahī. Jal thal pekẖ pekẖ man bigsi▫o pūr rahi▫o sarab mahī. ||1||

I can now appreciate that the Almighty is (agah = cannot be held) beyond reach/comprehension, (agaadh-i = without bottom) unfathomable, (ooch = high) the highest authority and (abinaasi) imperishable/Eternal; IT’s (keemat-i = price) worth – virtues, powers and extent of domain – (na jaat) cannot (kahi = said) be told.

(Man-u) the mind (bigsio) blossoms (peykh-i peykh-i) seeing IT (jal-i) in water, (thal-i) in/on land; IT (poor rahio) pervades/is present (mahi) in (sarab) all – bodies and places. 1.

The Almighty is (preetam) lovable, (manmohan) fascinating and (daiaal) compassionate to (deen) the poor/hapless; (mil-i) meeting with/being in company of (saadshah) the saints (keeno = makes, sahi = right) brings correct understanding.

One (jeevat) lives – without falling prey to vices – (simar-i simar-i) by ever keeping in mind commands of (har-i) the Almighty; and is not (phahi = trapped) put in (bheer/bheerr) difficult situation (ki) of (jam) Divine justice, i.e. being hauled up by Divine justice is obviated, says fifth Nanak. 2. 68. 109.

Sārag mėhlā 5.  Mā▫ī rī man mero maṯvāro.  Pekẖ ḏa▫i▫āl anaḏ sukẖ pūran har ras rapi▫o kẖumāro. ||1|| rahā▫o.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. (Ri) o (maai) mother, (meyro) my (man-u) mind (matvaaro) is charmed.

(Peykh-i) seeing (daiaal) the compassionate Master, the mind (pooran) is filled with (anad/anand) bliss and (sukh) peace; (rapio = dyed) infused with (ras-i) with the elixir of (har-i) God, i.e. Naam, the mind (khumaaro = intoxicated) remains immersed in God. 1.

(Rahaau) dwell and reflect on this.

Nirmal bẖa▫e ūjal jas gāvaṯ bahur na hovaṯ kāro. Cẖaran kamal si▫o dorī rācẖī bẖeti▫o purakẖ apāro. ||1||

A mind (bhaey = becomes, nirmal = clean) purified by (gaavat = singing) praising and emulating (oojal) the pristine (jas-u = praise) virtues of God (na hovat) does not become (kaaro) blackened/stained, i.e. vices do not affect those who live with remembrance and practice of Naam.

The (ddori) the string – like kite-string – is (raachi) connected (siau) with (charan kamal) lotus feet, i.e. the mind which always has God in mind (bhettio) finds (apaaro) the Infinite (purakh-u) all-pervasive God. 1.

The Almighty (gah-i leeney) held my (kar-u) hand – patronized me i.e. motivated to live by Naam – and (deeney) gave (sarbas-u) everything I wished for – vision of God –; now there is (ujaaro) light of (deepak) the lamp, i.e. the mind is enlightened with awareness of Naam with God present within.

(Rasik) a lover/devotee (bairaagi) yearns to live (naam-i) by Naam and (taaro) ferries (samooha-n) all (kulah) lineages, i.e. all those who follow the devotee also overcome temptations and are emancipated, says fifth Nanak. 2. 87. 110.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. (Ri) o (maai) mother, those who (simar-i = remember) have in mind (aan) other ideas – than obedience to God -, (mar-i jaa’nh-i = die) succumb to temptations.

They (tiaag-i) forsake (gobid-u/gobind = master of the world) the Almighty, (daataa) provider (ko) of (jeeaan) the creatures, and (lapttaah-i) cling to (maaiaa) material things. 1.

Those who (bisaar-i) forget/ignore Naam or commands of the Almighty and (challah-i) walk on (an) other (maarag-i) path, i.e. act by self-will – they fall to temptations and are (paah-i) put (mah-i) in (ghor) terrible (narak) hell, i.e. are denied union with God and put in cycles of births and deaths.

They are administered (anik = numerous) so many (sajaa’nee) punishments of (bhramaah-i) wandering – being put in – (garbhai) womb (garabh-i) to womb that their (ganat) count (na aavai) is not possible. 1.

(Prasaad-i) with grace/guidance of (gur) the guru they (jeetio) conquer (jag-u) the world, i.e. overcome temptations in the world-play, and do not (aavah-i = come) take birth and (jaanh-i = go) die (bahur-i) again, says fifth Nanak. 2. 88. 111.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. One from within whom, (har-i) the Almighty (kaatti = cuts) removes (kuttilta) deceit (kuttaar-i) with an axe, i.e. with awareness of Naam, s/he leads life free of machinations.

(Rahaau) dwell and reflect on this.
