O my mind, we should (seyvh-u) obey (alakh = without signs) the Formless (niranjan = unstained) pristine (narhar-i = man-lion) Almighty, (seyviai) by obeying (jit-u) whom we are (chhutteeai) freed of (leykha) account, i.e all vices are given up.

(Har-i prabh-i) the almighty Master (keeay) makes (jan = servants) the devotees (poorey) perfect, and they do not (ghaatteeai) fall short even (maasaa tol-u = small measures of weight) a bit, for union with the Almighty, says (jan) humble fourth Nanak. 5. 5. 19. 57.

(Vaddbhaai) fortunately I (paaiaa) found (poora) the perfect (guru-u) guru who (deeaa) gave me (mantr) instruction to obey commands of (har-i) the Almighty, and (man-u) the mind became (tthaaddhey = cool) steady. 1.

O (raam) Almighty, (ham) I (kaanddhey) am known (laaley) slave of (satigur) the true guru, please enable that I follow the guru’s guidance. 1

(Rahaau) dwell on this and reflect.

The guru (lagaana) marked (daag) sign on (hamrai) my (mastak-i) forehead – of the guru’s follower which enables to attain union with the Almighty, I (saaddhey) owe (bah-u) heavy (karaj) debt to the guru. The guru (keeaa) did (bah-u) great (punn-u) benevolent action, to enable (taar-i) ferry across (dutar-u) the hard-to-cross (bhau/bhav) world ocean of vices and (praaddhey) land on far shore – to unite with the Almighty. 2.

Those who do not have (preet-i) love (ridai) in the heart for (har-i) the Almighty, (tin) they (gaadhey) show (koorrey) false (gaaddhan) tie up, i.e. are impostors.

Such (manmukh) self-willed persons (glaaddhey = rot) suffer being in (garab-i) in the womb again and again, (jiau) like (kagad-u) paper (binas-I jaat) perishes in (paani) water. 3.

We neither (jaaniaa) know (kachhoo na) nothing nor shall ever (jaanah-i) know what lies (aagai) ahead; we (tthaadhey = stand) accept (tiau) that way (jiau) as (har-i) the Almighty (raakhai) keeps, i.e. have to accept Divine will.

We commit acts of (bhool) commission and (chook) omission, please (dhaarh-u) bestow (kirpa) kindness to enable to follow the guru, and forgive; we are (kaaddhey) known as Your (kutrey) dogs, i.e. dependent on You, says (jan) humble fourth Nanak. 4. 7. 21. 59.
