Darbar Sahib Hukamnama 23 Dec 2013

 

Note: Temptations in the world-play entice the human beings who fall prey to them because of temporary gains or pleasures. However it is the law of nature that anyone who loses self-cntrol, ultimately suffers. If we remember that the Creator has sent us to play our role in life, we would try to learn the duties from the Guru and lead life accordingly. This is living by Naam and is the subject of Darbar Sahib  Hukamnama  on 23 Dec 2013, from SGGS page 397.

 

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥   

Āsā mėhlā 5.   

 

Baani of the fifth Guru in Raag Aasa.

 

ਸਾਈ ਅਲਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਭੋਰੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥   ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਾਇ ਮੈਡਾ ਹਭੁ ਨਸੈ ॥੧॥  

Sā▫ī alakẖ apār bẖorī man vasai.   Ḏūkẖ ḏaraḏ rog mā▫e maidā habẖ nasai. ||1|| 

 

Should (bhori) a bit – of Naam or virtues and commands – of (saai = that) the One Almighty who is (alakh-u) indescribable and (apaar-u) infinite (vasai) abides (man-i) in the mind;

then o (maa-e) mother, (habh) every (dookh-u) suffering, (darad-u) pain and (rog-u) afflictions shall (nasai = run) leave me – i.e. I shall not fall prey to temptations which cause suffering. 1.

 

ਹਉ ਵੰਞਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਸਾਈ ਆਪਣੇ ॥   ਹੋਵੈ ਅਨਦੁ ਘਣਾ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜਾਪਣੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥  

Ha▫o vañā kurbāṇ sā▫ī āpṇe.   Hovai anaḏ gẖaṇā man ṯan jāpṇe. ||1||

rahā▫o. 

 

(Hau) I (va-njna kurbaan-u = am sacrifice) adore (aapn-e) my (saai) Master;

by (jaapn-e) remembering whom, my (man-i) mind and (tan-i) body (hovai = happens) experience (ghanaa = plenty) great (anad/anand) bliss/happiness i.e. I think and act in a state of peace since wrong-doings are avoided. 1.

(Rahaau) dwell and reflect on this.  

 

ਬਿੰਦਕ ਗਾਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਸਚੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਣੀ ॥   ਸੂਖੀ ਹੂੰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ਮਾਇ ਨ ਕੀਮ ਗਣੀ ॥੨॥  

Binḏak gālėh suṇī sacẖe ṯis ḏẖaṇī.   Sūkẖī hūʼn sukẖ pā▫e mā▫e na kīm gaṇī. ||2||  

 

By (suni) listening to – and acting on – (bindak) a bit of (gaal-i = talk) instructions given to the soul before birth by (tis = that) the One (sach-e) Eternal (dhani) Master,

(paa-e) obtain (sookhi hoo-n sukh-u = comfort of comfors) the supreme bliss – of being absorbed in the Almighty – o (maa-e) mother, (keem) the value of which cannot (gani) be assessed – it is beyond measure. 2.

 

ਨੈਣ ਪਸੰਦੋ ਸੋਇ ਪੇਖਿ ਮੁਸਤਾਕ ਭਈ ॥   ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਣਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ਆਪਿ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ਲਈ ॥੩॥  

Naiṇ pasanḏo so▫e pekẖ musṯāk bẖa▫ī.   Mai nirguṇ merī mā▫e āp laṛ lā▫e la▫ī. ||3||  

 

I (pasando = like) am fascinated (p-ekh-i) seeing with my (nain) eyes IT’s manifestation in nature and (bhaee) am (mustaak) attracted to IT;

(mai) I was (nirgun) devoid of virtues, my mother, but IT (laa-e laee) attached me to IT’s (larr-i) robe i.e. was kind to accept me. 3.

 

ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹਭਾ ਹੂੰ ਬਾਹਰਾ ॥   ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਜਾਹਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੦੫॥  

Beḏ kaṯeb sansār habẖā hūʼn bāhrā.   Nānak kā pāṯisāhu ḏisai jāhrā. ||4||3||105||  

 

The Almighty is (baahara) outside i.e. transcends, (habha hoo-n) all (b-ed = Vedas) – the Oriental scriptures and (kat-eb) the Semitic scriptures of (sansaar) the world i.e. the scriptures caanot describe IT and IT has no physical existence.

Says fifth Nanak: The (paatisaahu = king) Sovereign Master (disai) isseen (jaahara = manifest) present everywhere. 4. 3. 105.
