Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. (Rey) o (moorrhey) mindless person (kaahey) why do you (jaai) go (kat) anywhere (aan = other) else?

(Rey) o dear, you have (sang-i) with you (manohar = fascinating) the wonderful (amrit-u) life-giving elixir; but you (bhool-i bhool-i) keep forgetting that and (khaaee) consume (bikh-u) poison, i.e. Naam or Divine virtues and commands are within you – whose practice enables to find God – but you follow others to perform rituals and idol worship which do not achieve anything. 1.

(Prabh) the Almighty is (sundar) good looking, (chatur) clever, (anoop) unique; you do not have (raaee = mustard seed) a bit of (ruch) liking for that (bidhaatey) Creator and seek company elsewhere.

Your (baavar) crazy (man-u) mind (mohio) is charmed (sio) by (mohan-i = enticer) temptations as if some cheat has (paai) administered (tthagauri) an intoxicant (jhootth-i = of falsehood) of liking for transitory pleasures to you. 1.

I (paaey) have found (sagal) all (nidhaan) treasures (mah-i) in (gharai) the house itself, i.e. have found Naam or Divine virtues and commands – the guide for life, within – and I remain (samaai) absorbed (jot-i = in light) in the Supreme Spirit, i.e. conduct myself by Naam, says fifth Nanak. 2. 21. 44.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. (Preet-i) affection for (pria) the Beloved (oa-n/oankaar) Creator was (pahilareea) already present (cheet-i) in my mind – but I was oblivious of it.

O (meyrey) my (satigur) true guru, (jo) when (tau) you (deeo) gave me (bachan-u = word) the guidance – I became aware of Naam or virtues and commands of the Almighty within – and (tau) then I (saaj) embellished and (seegareeaa) adorned myself, i.e. I have molded my life by Naam hoping to be liked by God. 1.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. (Ab) now (moro) my (sahsa) anxiety and (dookh-u) suffering – due to transgressions – (gaiaa) have gone,

I (tiaag-i chhoddey) discarded (sagal) all (aur) other (upaav) measures and (paiaa) placed myself (saran-i = sanctuary) under guidance of (satigur) the true guru. 1.

(Kott-i = crores) my countless (praadh/apraadh) faults (bhaee hai) have been (khau) destroyed/ given up since I (mil-i) found and learnt from (gur) the guru and (kahiaa = said) have kept in mind (har-i = dispels vices) the purifying and (har-i = makes green) rejuvenating virtues and commands of the Almighty. 1.

Now, the mind neither (aavai) comes nor (jaavai) goes (kat hi) anywhere; it does not (ddolai) waver, in face of temptations and is now (thir-u) unshakable and (raajaiaa = king) in control of everything, says fifth Nanak. 2. 24. 47.

When one (sahj-i) naturally and (sahj-i) steadfastly (gaaio = sings) praises and emulates (gun) virtues of (laal) the Beloved, (daiaal) kind Almighty (gulaal = deep red color) the epitome of love, i.e. when one lovingly obeys the kind Almighty all the time – and not remember only when in need. 1.

(Rahaau) dwell on this and reflect.

Gur bacẖnāṯ kamāṯ kirpā ṯe bahur na kaṯhū ḏẖā▫i▫o. Rahaṯ upāḏẖ samāḏẖ sukẖ āsan bẖagaṯ vacẖẖal garihi pā▫i▫o. ||1||

If one (kamaat-i) carries out (bachnaat-i = words) instructions of (gur) the guru (tey) with (kirpa = kindness) motivation of the Master then one does not (dhaaio = run) go (katahoo) anywhere (bahur-i) again, i.e. does not engage in rituals or worships of idols.

(Upaadh-i = physical ailments – metaphor for) propensity to fall prey to vices (rahat) ends and one (sukh aasan = sitting cross-legged) sits comfortably, i.e. remains naturally (samaadh-i = in meditation) absorbed in the Almighty; this is how the Almighty (vachhal-u) the lover (bahagt-i) of devotees is (paaiao) found (grih-i = in home) within. 1.

Nāḏ binoḏ kod ānanḏā sėhje sahj samā▫i▫o. Karnā āp karāvan āpe kaho Nānak āp āpā▫i▫o. ||2||30||53||

One then (samaaiao) remains absorbed (sahjey) naturally in (sahj-i) state of poise and experiences (naad) music, (binod) plays and (kodd = crores) crores, i.e. abundant (aananda) bliss/happiness.

The Almighty (aap-i) IT-self (karna) does and (aapey) IT-self (karaavan) gets things done and (aap-i) IT-self (aapaaio = makes own) accepts for union,  – so the devotee has no anxiety – says fifth Nanak. 2. 30. 53.
