Darbar sahibHukamnama 21 Dec 2013
Note: In this Shabad the fifth Guru presents the state of the ordinary mortal as being subject to temptations, and wavering. S/he should seek guidance of the guru who shows the path to the Almighty.
Sūhī mėhlā 5. Ŧa▫o mai ā▫i▫ā sarnī ā▫i▫ā. Bẖarosai ā▫i▫ā kirpā ā▫i▫ā. Ji▫o bẖāvai ṯi▫o rākẖo su▫āmī mārag gurėh paṯẖā▫i▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Composition of the fifth Guru in Raag Soohi. O Almighty, I (aaiaa) have come to (tau) You to seek (sarni) sanctuary.
I have come (bharosai) with the confidence that one comes to You (kirpa) with Your kindness/motivation – and You would help me.
O (suaami) Master, please (raakhahu) protect me (tiau) the way (jiau) as (bhaavai) pleases You; I (patthaaia) have been sent on this (maarag-u) path (gurah-i) by the guru – to whom I went as motivated by You. 1.
(Rahaau) dwell on this and contemplate.
Mahā ḏuṯar mā▫i▫ā. Jaise pavan jẖulā▫i▫ā. ||1||
Temptations in (maaiaa) the world-play are (maha = great) very (dutar-u = hard to get across) hard to overcome.
They affect human beings (jais-e) the way (pavan-u) air (jhulaaiaa) blows things. 1.
Sun sun hī darā▫i▫ā. Karro ḏẖaramrā▫i▫ā. ||2||
I (ddaraaia) am frightened (suni-i sun-i) to hear that (dhramraaia) the metaphoric Divine court judge (dhramraaia) Dharam Rai is (kararo/kararra) very strict – in punishing transgressors. 2.
Garih anḏẖ kūpā▫i▫ā. Pāvak sagrā▫i▫ā. ||3||
(Grih = home) the world is (andh) a blind (koopaaiaa) well, i.e. human beings get so attached to the family as to forget the Creator.
It is (sagraaiaa/sagal) all (paavak) fire – full of violence, attachment, greed and wrath, which are hard to overcome. 3.
Gahī ot saḏẖā▫i▫ā. Nānak har ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā. Ab mai pūrā pā▫i▫ā. ||4||3||46||
That is why I (gahi = held) sought (ott = protection) guidance of (saadhaaia) the guru – and as taught by him, (dhiaaiaa) pay attention to virtues and commands of (har-i) the Almighty, says fourth Nanak.
I have (ab) now (paaiaa = found) reached (poora = perfect) the Supreme Master – who protects. 4. 3. 46.
