(Sacha) the Eternal (aap-i) IT-self graciously (savaaranhaara) transforms. I (na soojhas-i) cannot think of (beeji) any other (kaara) thing to do – than placing myself in IT’s care and obedience.
One (antar-i) in whose (ghatt) mind (sach-u) the Eternal (vasai) abides, i.e. is remembered and obeyed, (gurmukh-i) with the guru’s guidance, s/he remains (sahjey) steadfastly (samaaee) absorbed in – practice of virtues and commands of – (sach-i) the Eternal. 1.

IT is (sahaj-i) easily found (parsaadi = with grace) with guidance of (gur) the guru and then one (samaahi) remains absorbed in IT – in obedience of IT’s Divine commands. Those who (karat = say, gur-u gur-u = guru) remember the guru’s teachings, they – shun vices and hence – (sadaa) ever (paaiaa) experience (sukh-u) peace; they (laaee) fix their (chit-u) mind on (charan = feet) obedience to instructions of the guru. 2.

||3||
(Satigur-u) the true guru is the source of (giaan-u) awareness of Divine virtues and commands, and obedience to the teachings of the true guru is (pooja) worship of the Almighty. I (seyvi = serve) obey only (satigur-u) the true guru, not (dooja = other) anyone (avar-u) else – to be free from vices and hence rebirth.
I have (paaiaa) received (ratan = jewel) the valuable (dhan-u) wealth of awareness of (naam-u) Divine virtues and commands; I (bhaaee = like) enjoy being in (seyva) obedience of the true guru. 3.

(J-i) those who (gurmukh-i) follow the guru and (rahah-i) remain in his (sarnaaee) care and obedience, (tin ki) their (gat-i) freedom from vices and hence reincarnation (hovai = happens) becomes possible. 4.

Please (hohu) be (daiaal-u) kind, o (jeeo) revered (har-i) Almighty, and (rakh-i leyvhu) keep me (sarnaaee = in santuary) in care and obedience of the guru. 5.

(Anhad) incessant (sabad = sound) celestial music (dhun-i) of absorbing (baani = words) Divine messages (vajah-i) plays (tah) there, i.e. one enjoys the bliss of God’s presence within and (sahjey) steadfastly (samaaee) remains absorbed (sahj-i) in God the embodiment of poise. 6.

The Almighty (aap-ey) IT-self (kripa = mercy, karey = does/bestows) kindly (deyvai = gives) imparts awareness of Naam, and s/he remains (samaaee) absorbed in, i.e. leads life (naam-i) by Naam. 8.

Composition of the fourth Guru in Raga Maaroo. (Har-i) the Almighty is (agam) beyond reach/comprehension, (agochar-u) not perceived by the senses and (sadaa) ever (abinaasi) imperishable. IT (rav-i rahiaa) pervades (sarbey) everywhere and (vaasi) dwells in all (ghatt) bodies/souls.
There is (na koee = not any) no (daata = giver) provider (bin-u) except (tis-u) IT; (sreyvhu = serve) be in obedience to (tisah-i) that Master, o (praani) creatures. 1.

One (ja kau) whom (har-i) the Almighty (raakhanhaara) protector (raakhai) protects; (koey na) no one (saakas-i) can (maara) kill (ta kau) that person.
O (santahu = saints) seekers (seyvhu = serve) be in obedience of (so) that (aisa) such Almighty (ja ki) whose (baani = words) commands are (ootam = sublime) final – inviolable. 2.

(Ja) when (jaapai = is perceived) it is realized that there is (kichh-u naahi) nothing (kithaaoo) anywhere; (ta) then (karta) the Creator is seen (bharpoor-i = filling, smaahi = contained) present, i.e. when the situation seems hopeless, the Almighty helps.
The Almighty (phun-i) again (keeton-u) makes (hariaa) a green plant (tey) from (sookey) a withered one, i.e. a despondent person feels rejuvenated; (dhiaavhu) pay attention to commands of the Almighty who does (viddaani) wondrous (choj) feats. 3.
Message: When it seems no one can help, invoke God – but why wait for distress; ever remember IT.

(Hau) I (kurbaanai = am sacrifice) adore (tis-u = that) the (sahib-u) Master (jo) who (jaanai) knows (veydan) the pain (ki) of (jeeaa) the creatures.
O (jan = servant) seeker, (kar-i) make (beynanti) supplication (aagai) before (tis-u = that) IT (jo) who (daani = giver) provides (sarab) all (sukhaa) comforts. 4.

One (jo) who does not (jaanai) know (saar) the state of (jeeai) the creature, i.e. yearning for union with the Creator; we should not (kaheeai = say) make request (sio) to (tis-u) that (ajaanai = child) power-less person.
Do not first rely and then (loojh-u) fight (siau) with (moorakh = foolish) one who boasts s/he can help, o (praani = creature) human being; remember, (pad-u) the state of (nirbaani) freedom from attachments to the world-play necessary for union with the Creator, is achieved (japeeai) by remembrance of (har-i) the Almighty – and practice of IT’s virtues and commands. 5.

(Na kar-i) do not (chint) worry – about sustenance -, (kartey) the Creator has that (chinta) worry; (har-i) the Almighty (deyvai = gives) provides sustenance (sabhta) to all (janta) creatures (jal-i) in water and (thal-i) in/on land.
(Prabh-u) the Master (meyra = my) of all (dey-i = gives) provides (daan-u = alms) provisions to (keett) worms and insects (vich-i) in (paathar) rocks and (pakhaani) stones (achint = without thought) without thinking/asking by them. 6.
Nā kar ās mīṯ suṯ bẖā▫ī. Nā kar ās kisai sāh bi▫uhār kī parā▫ī. Bin har nāvai ko belī nāhī har japī▫ai sārangpāṇī he. ||7||
(Na kar-i) do not have (aas) expectation from (meet) friends, (sut = sons) children and (bhaaee = brothers) dear ones. Do not have expectation from (kisai) any (praaee) other (saaah) wealthy person or (biohaar) one you deal with in life – no one else selflessly help here or in the hereafter.
(Ko naahi) no one is your permanent (beyli) friend (bin-u) except practice of (naavai) of Naam or virtues and commands of (har-i) the Almighty; we should (japeeai) invoke (har-i) the Almighty (saarangpaani = provider of water for the rain bird) Sustainor of the creatures. 7.
An▫ḏin nām japahu banvārī. Sabẖ āsā mansā pūrai thārī. Jan Nānak nām japahu bẖav kẖandan sukẖ sėhje raiṇ vihāṇī he. ||8||
(Andin-u = everyday) ever (japahu) remember to obey (naam-u) virtues and commands of (banvaari) the Almighty, Who can (poorai) fulfil (sabh) all (thaari) your (aasa) expectations and (mansa) aspirations.
(Japahu) remember and practice Naam of the Almighty (khanddan) destroyer of (bhav) births and deaths, (sahjey) steadfastly so that (rain-i = night) life (vihaani) passes (sukh-i) in peace. 8.

Those (jin-i) who (seyviaa = serve) obey (har-i) the Almighty, (tin-i) they (paaiaa) attain (sukh-u) the comfort – of union with the Almighty. They remain (sahjey hi) effortlessly (samaaiaa) absorbed in practice (naam-i) of Naam.
(Jaaey) go and (poochhahu) ask (veyd) the Vedas and Puranas, i.e. we learn from the scriptures; that (jo) whosoever (parai) places the self (saran-i = in sanctuary) in care and obedience of the Almighty, IT (raakhai) preserves (pat-i) honor (ki) of (tis) that person – i.e. protects from vices in life and accepts for union on death. 9.
Jis har sevā lā▫e so▫ī jan lāgai. Gur kai sabaḏ bẖaram bẖa▫o bẖāgai. vicẖe garih saḏā rahai uḏāsī ji▫o kamal rahai vicẖ pāṇī he. ||10||
One (jis-u) whom (har-i) the Almighty (laaey) engages in (seyva = service) obedience of IT’s commands, (soee) only that (jan-u) person (laagai) engages in service, (sabad-i = with word) with guidance (kai) of (gur) the guru; any (bharam) doubt about protection by the Almighty and (bhau) fear (bhaagai = runs) vanishes.
S/he (sadaa) ever (rahai) remains (udaasi) un-attached to the world-play while being (vichey) in (grih) the family, (jiau) like (kamal-u) the lotus flower (rahai) remains untouched by water while being (vich-i) in (paani) water. 10

vicẖ ha▫umai sevā thā▫e na pā▫e. Janam marai fir āvai jā▫e. So ṯap pūrā sā▫ī sevā jo har mere man bẖāṇī he. ||11||
God does not (paaey) put (seyva) service done (vich-i) in (haumai) ego, (thaaey = in place) in credit – to be counted when taking account of deeds. Such a person (janam-i) is born, (marai = dies) keeps succumbing to vices, (aavai) = comes) is born (phir-i) again and (jaaey = goes) dies.
(So) that (tap-u) austerity and (saai) that (seyva) service is (poora = perfect) good, (jo) which is (bhaani) pleasing (man-i) to the mind of (har-i) Almighty Master (meyrey = my) of all. 11.
Ha▫o ki▫ā guṇ ṯere ākẖā su▫āmī. Ŧū sarab jī▫ā kā anṯarjāmī. Ha▫o māga▫o ḏān ṯujẖai pėh karṯe har an▫ḏin nām vakẖāṇī he. ||12||
(Kiaa) what all (gun) virtues (teyrey) of Yours can (hau) I (aakhaa = say) count, o (suaami) Master. (Too) You even (antarjaami) know the minds of (sarab) all (jeeaa) creatures.
(Hau) I (maagau) ask this (daan-u = alms) benediction (pah-i) from (tujhai) You, o (kartey) Creator; please enable me to (andin-u = everyday) ever (vakhaani = utter) remember and practice Your (naam-u) virtues and commands. 12.
Kis hī jor ahaʼnkār bolaṇ kā. Kis hī jor ḏībān mā▫i▫ā kā. Mai har bin tek ḏẖar avar na kā▫ī ṯū karṯe rākẖ mai nimāṇī he. ||13||
(Kis hi) someone may have (ahankaar) pride in (jor-u) power (bolan) of the gab. (Kis hi) someone may be proud of (jor-u) power of (deebaan) authority and (maaiaa) wealth.
(Mai) I have (naa kaai) no other (tteyk, dhar-u) support (bin-u) except (har-i) the Almighty. O (kartey) Creator, (too) You please (raakh-u) take care of (mai) me (nimaani) honour-less one, i.e. accept this virtue-less servant. 13.
Nimāṇe māṇ karahi ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai. Hor keṯī jẖakẖ jẖakẖ āvai jāvai. Jin kā pakẖ karahi ṯū su▫āmī ṯin kī ūpar gal ṯuḏẖ āṇī he. ||14||
It (bhaavai) pleases (tudh-u) You to (karah-i) make (nimaaney) the honor-less to be (maan-u) honorable, i.e. you give glory to the humble. (Keyti) many (hor) another human (jhakh-i jhakh-i) keeps wandering fruitlessly – seeking help of others – and (aavai) is born and (jaavai = goes) dies again and again.
Those (jin ka) whose (pakh-u) side (too) You (karah-i) take, – in battle against vices -, o (suaami) Master; (too) You (aani) bring (tin ki) their (gal = thing) interest (oopar-i = above) on top. 14.
Har har nām jinī saḏā ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā. Ŧinī gur parsāḏ param paḏ pā▫i▫ā. Jin har sevi▫ā ṯin sukẖ pā▫i▫ā bin sevā pacẖẖoṯāṇī he. ||15||
Those (jini) who (sadaa) ever (dhiaaiaa) pay attention to (naam-u) virtues and commands of (har-i) the Almighty; (tini) they (paaiaa) attain (param) the supreme (pad-u) status – of acceptance by You, (parsaad-i = with grace) with guidance of the guru.
(Jin-i) those who (seyviaa) obey (har-i) the Almighty, (tin-i) they (paaiaa) attain (sukh-u) the comfort of union with You; those (bin-u) without (seyva = service) obedience (pachhotaani) repent – as they cannot attain union with the Creator. 15.
Ŧū sabẖ mėh varṯėh har jagannāth. So har japai jis gur masṯak hāth. Har kī saraṇ pa▫i▫ā har jāpī jan Nānak ḏās ḏasāṇī he. ||16||2||
(Too) You (vartah-i) pervade (mah-i) in (sabh) all, o (har-i) Almighty (jagannaath-u) Master of the world. (So) that person (jis-u) who (haath-u = hand, mastak-i = on the head) is blessed with guidance of (gur) the guru, (japai) keeps in mind – virtues and commands of – (har-i) the Almighty.
S/he (paiaa) places the self (saran-i = in sanctuary) care and obedience of (har-i) the Almighty, and (jaapi) remembers and obeys (har-i) the Almighty; (jan-u) humble fifth Nanak is (daas-u) the servant of (dasaani) servants of that person/seeker. 16. 2.
