Cẖaran kamal basā▫e hirḏai ek si▫o liv lā▫o. Sāḏẖsangaṯ hohi nirmal bahuṛ jon na ā▫o. ||1||

(Basaaey = cause to abide) keep (kamal = lotus, charan = feet) God present (hirdai) in mind; and (laau) fix (liv) attention (sio) on (eyk = one) God alone.

Join (Saadhsangat-i) holy congregation – where virtues and commands of the Almighty are recounted and learnt to practice – to (hoh-i) be (nirmal-u = free of dirt) freed of vices and not (aau = come) take (jon-i) a life form (bahurr-i) again, i.e. not to be reborn. 1.

Jī▫o parān aḏẖār ṯerā ṯū nithāve thā▫o.  Sās sās samĥāl har har Nānak saḏ bal jā▫o. ||2||61||84||

And pray to the Almighty: (Jeeo) the soul and (praan) life have (teyra) Your (adhaar-u) reliance; (too) You are (thaau = place) the refuge (nithaavey = without a place) of the hapless.

I (samhaal-i = take care) keep in mind (har-i har-i) the Almighty (saas-i saas-i = with every breath) every moment; and (sad) ever (bal-i jaau = am sacrifice) kill ego and live by Divine will, says fifth Nanak. 2. 61. 84.

Sārag mėhlā 5.  Baikunṯẖ gobinḏ cẖaran niṯ ḏẖi▫ā▫o.  Mukaṯ paḏārath sāḏẖū sangaṯ amriṯ har kā nā▫o. ||1|| rahā▫o.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Saarag. (Nit) ever (dhiaau) think of being at (charan) the feet of, i.e. in obedience to, the Almighty (gobind) Master of the world – you will commit no vices and hence be at peace -; this is (baikuntth) heaven.

(Padaarath-u = substance) the gift of (mukat-i) emancipation from vices in life and hence from rebirth on death, is obtained (sangat-i = with company) with guidance of (saadhoo) the guru who imparts awareness of  (amrit) the life-giving (naau) Naam or Divine virtues and commands and teaches their practice – and become free from vices. 1.

(Rahaau) dwell on this and contemplate.

Ūṯam kathā suṇījai sarvaṇī ma▫i▫ā karahu bẖagvān.  Āvaṯ jāṯ ḏo▫ū pakẖ pūran pā▫ī▫ai sukẖ bisrām. ||1||

Please (karahu) bestow (maiaa) kindness, o (bhagvaan) Almighty: That I (suneejai) listen to the guru’s (ootam) sublime (kathaa) discourse – on Your Naam – (sravni) with my ears, and put to practice.

So that (do-oo) both (pakh) sides, namely cycles of (aavat = coming) births and (jaat = going) deaths are (pooran) completed/end; and (sukh) peace and (bisraam = rest) comfort (paaeeai) obtained by merging in the Creator. 1.

Soḏẖaṯ soḏẖaṯ ṯaṯ bīcẖāri▫o bẖagaṯ saresat pūrī. Kaho Nānak ik rām nām bin avar sagal biḏẖ ūrī. ||2||62||85||

(Sodhat sodhat) after reflection, I (beechaario) understood this (tat-u) reality, that practice of Naam of the Almighty is (poori) the prefect and (sreystt) supreme (bhagat-i = devotion) method to attain, emancipation from vices, and union with God.

(Sagal) all (avar) other (bidh-i) methods (bin-u) except practice of Naam of (ik) the one (raam) Almighty are (oori = empty) hollow, says fifth Nanak. 2. 62. 85.
