Note: This Shabad uses the terms ਸਾਹੁ (Saah-u) meaning a financier or business owner man, and ਵਣਜਾਰੇ (Vanjaarey) meaning traders. The Saahu provides good/merchandise to the traders who buy and sell goods, come back and deposit the sale receipts. Saahu is their master. This has been used in Gurbani as metaphor for God as the financier/ source who gives the capital of virtues to the living beings with which to conduct themselves the souls are evaluated on return to God.

(jan-i) humble fourth Nanak (dhiaaiaa = pays attention) obeys Naam-u/Divine commands with (pargaas = light) guidance (gurmukh-i) the guru’s teachings. 4. 3. 9. 47.

O (bhaaee = brethren) dear, (mat) let not (koee) anyone (jaanh-u) consider there is (kichh-u) anything (haath-i) in hands (kai) of (kisee) anyone; everyone (karey) acts (karaaiaa) as caused to act.

(Jaraa) old age, (maraa) death, (taap) illness, (sirt) headache, (saap, sraap) curse; all (har kai vas hai) are (vas-i) under control (kai) of (har-i) the Divine; (koee na) no one (sakai) can (laag-i) inflict (bin-u) without (laaiaa) being inflicted by the Almighty.

Nit-i) ever (dhiaavh-u) pay attention to (aisaa) such (naam-u) Almighty (jo) who (chhaddaaiaa) can deliver (anti) at end (ausar-i) time, i.e. account of deeds is taken and consequences imposed, says (jan) humble fourth Nanak. 4. 7. 13. 51.

Ga▫oṛī bairāgaṇ mėhlā 4.  Jis mili▫ai man ho▫e anand so saṯgur kahī▫ai.   Man kī ḏubiḏẖā binas jā▫e har param paḏ lahī▫ai. ||1||

Composition of the fourth Guru in Raga Gaurri Raagini Bairagan. (So) that person (kaheeai) called (satigur-u) the true guru (miliai) on meeting (jis-u) whom (man-i) the mind (hoey) feels/experiences (anand-u) bliss – with his/her guidance.

(Dubidha = duality) other thoughts (ki) of (man) the mind (binas jaaey = are destroyed) leave and (param) supreme (pad) status of finding (har-i) the Almighty within (laheeai) is attained. 1.

(Kit) by what (bidhi) method can (meyra) my (piaara) dear (satigur-u) true guru (milai) be found? (Hau) I shall (kari) ay (namaskaar-u) obeisance to the person who advises (kiau) how (meyra) my (poora) perfect (gur) guru may (milai) be found. 1.

(Rahaau) dwell on this and reflect.

Kar kirpā har meli▫ā merā saṯgur pūrā.   Icẖẖ punnī jan kerī▫ā le saṯgur ḏẖūrā. ||2||

(Har-i) the Almighty (kari kirpa) was kind to (meyliaa = caused to meet) lead me to (meyra) my (poora) perfect (satigur-u) true guru. My (ichh = wish) yearning to (ley) take (dhoora) dust of feet of, i.e. to learn from and follow example of, (satigur) the true guru. 2.

Har bẖagaṯ ḏariṛ▫āvai har bẖagaṯ suṇai ṯis saṯgur milī▫ai.   Ŧotā mūl na āvī har lābẖ niṯ ḏariṛī▫ai. ||3||

One should (miliai) meet (tis-u) that (satigur) true guru who (drirraavai) creates firm understanding of (bhagat-i) dedication/obedience to (har-i) the Almighty and (sunai) listens to enquiries about (har-i bhagat-i) devotion to God.

By (nit) ever (drirreeai) having firm commitment to Divine obedience one obtains (laabh) the benefit of finding (har-i) the Almighty; and one (mool-i) never falls short in obedience. 3.

Jis ka▫o riḏai vigās hai bẖā▫o ḏūjā nāhī.   Nānak ṯis gur mil uḏẖrai har guṇ gāvāhī. ||4||8||14||52||

I am looking for the guru (jis kau) who has (vigaas-u) happiness – with God within and has no (dooja = second) other (bhaau = love0 pursuits.

Fourth Nanak (udhrai) is saved from other ideas (mil-i) on meeting (tis-u) that guru, who (gaavaahi = causes to sing) guides to praise and emulate (har-i) Divine (gun) virtues. 4. 8. 14. 52.
